Nursery Design Board

If you’ve been following along and wondering when the heck I’m going to start the nursery and what in the world it’s going to look like, I’m finally here with answers!  You see, I’ve been delaying starting the nursery because I was waiting to choose a crib and for it to be delivered before I chose the paint color so I could ensure I liked how they looked together.  The two biggest decisions, right?  Ok maybe just me.

Here is the empty room that will soon be his nursery.  It’s located right behind our bedroom and is the closest one to ours which I figured is a good idea.  You also see the 55 paint samples I tried out before finally deciding on Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige.  I hope you’re not surprised that it’s neutral.  And I love how it looked with my Delta crib that just arrived!  (More details on that later.)

So here are the plans for nursery and what I hope it looks like when it all comes together!

My inspiration came from several sources and I merged them all into one to create MY dream nursery.  As you know, I am in love with neutrals and my entire house is neutral.  So I wanted to keep it consistent with the rest of my home, but still make it cute for a baby and add a couple pops of color.  I saw a couple nursery’s on Pinterest I loved that had mint colored accents:

I also saw some with zoo animal prints that stole my heart and knew I wanted them:

And from all the molding projects you’ve seen throughout my house, you can predict that I wanted to do something interesting to the big focal wall behind the crib.  I debated for a long time whether I was going to do wallpaper or a certain type of molding, or shiplap.  Ultimately I love the style of shiplap (and it’s all the rage right now, hello Joanna Gains fans) but the traditional solid white shiplap doesn’t really fit the style of my house and I didn’t want too much of a farmhouse feel since I felt it would be out of place in my home.

I basically fell in love with the way the shiplap looked behind this giraffe (that I knew I HAD to have as soon as I saw it on Pottery Barn’s website).  But like I mentioned, I didn’t think white shiplap would go well with my home so I decided to do it except paint it a color.  The same color as the rest of the walls, SW Accessible Beige.

And then I fell in love with one that had sconce lights on the wall.  LOVE!

I put these ideas all together and came up with this design board.

Here’s a breakdown of the details:

  • Crib – Delta Children, more to come on that!
  • Rocker – The Charleston by Pottery Barn Kids
    • The one I originally wanted was this one from Pottery Barn below, except I went to the store to try it out before I ordered and it was hard as a rock!  Talk about disappointing!  So I chose my second favorite one which was SUPER comfortable!

  • Dresser – Graciously handed down to us from Ryan’s recently deceased grandmother.  It’s an amazing antique piece that we are so excited to reuse in our baby’s room and keep a memory of her with us.   (A whole post coming on this soon!) Sneak peak:

  • The sign above the dresser – Something I plan to DIY (and of course share a post on) that is a quote from my favorite childhood book (Love You Forever by Robert Munsch).  My mom bought me a copy of the book for Christmas this year and wrote the sweetest note inside and that’s when I knew this quote was going in the baby’s room.  I can’t wait for this project.

  • Lighting – I purchased these sconce lights from Wayfair to go on the crib wall and I already had an electrician wire the outlets on the wall where they will go.  Because I absolutely love the sconces and want them to be a focal, I didn’t want a huge center light that was too distracting.  So I went with this flush mount overhead light that I found on Joss and Main.  It matches the natural texture theme I’m carrying throughout the lampshade, ottoman poof, and overhead light.  The lamp I’m buying is from Target.
  • Accessories – I’m ordering a teal blanket, teal pillow and animal prints all from Etsy.  The rug is from RugsUSA and the curtains are the IKEA Ritva panels I have in my bedroom.

So what do you think of my plans?  I’ve already made quite a bit of progress on the room and can’t wait to share that with you guys in the coming weeks!
