Office Design Board

So I’m a little late on this post, but as you probably know, I’m in the middle of making over my husband’s home office.  (I posted the tutorial of the DIY Panel Wall a couple weeks ago.)  Hubs works out of the house but travels around the state 3-4 days out of the week, and is at home the other 1-2.  His office is the only bedroom downstairs in our home.  And let me just say that for the past 2 years, I’ve been embarrassed to show anyone this space when they come over.  The door stays shut and I roll my eyes something fierce.

And that right there is why.  I can’t believe I just showed you that picture, but there you have it friends.

Alas, it’s been on my list to makeover.  It just hasn’t been at the very top.  And not because it’s not a priority of mine, it just involved some very….intense conversations.  For anyone who knows my husband, you know what I mean.  For the rest of you, let’s just say he is very….meticulous.  (That’s a good thing, right?) Gulp.

I’ll start by showing you a picture of the room layout to help you visualize what my design plans are.  It was tricky to decide the layout of the room, but I knew I wanted the desk to be in the center, facing the door.  Convincing my husband that was a good idea…took a few weeks.  I’ve also loved the idea of a panel wall for a while now, and wanted to find a way to incorporate it.  It wasn’t ideal that the focal wall in this room also has the window on it, but I was determined to make it work.

Floor Plan

You can also see by the floor plan that it has a pretty large closet.  It had your standard one shelf wire rack all the way across it.  I’ve since removed that and built the entire close in with built in shelving to make it much more functional for him and will post about that very soon.

Heres the inspiration board I put together with the items I want to incorporate.  Keep in mind I’m not purchasing any furniture for this room except for a new chair.  His current chair is black (it blends with everything else too much) and it’s falling apart.  I’m giving his bookshelves and desk a mini face lift which I will also post about soon.  The main change here is the desk being flipped around to the center of the room, and I will also be rearranging the bookshelves.  Most importantly I will be moving the bookshelf that’s currently right when you walk in on the left wall (a huge eye sore).  I’m keeping our college degree’s where they are because I like the symmetry they create and we are very proud of them. 🙂

This is the wall opposite the closet.  Essentially it will be on your left when you walk in the room.  My husband uses a huge cork board in his office currently so the idea of that had to stay.  I found some more visually appealing cork boards at Hobby Lobby and will be incorporating these into the room.

So here’s the list:

Desk & Bookshelves – using current ones with a minor facelift (tutorial to follow soon)

Chair – Target

Rug – Ballard Designs

Curtain Panels – Ballard Designs

Cork Boards – Hobby Lobby

Cafe Shelf – Ballard Designs

Desk Lamp – Home Goods

Globe – Target

Hanging Orbs – Marshall’s

Bamboo Shade – Bed Bath & Beyond

Bookshelf decor – Home Goods

Panel Wall – Frills & Drills

So what do you think?  I’m excited to share more about this room and the transformation happening!
