So if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’re probably sitting there like, “What?! A master bedroom refresh?? Didn’t you just redo your master bedroom?!” The answer is yes. Well, sort of. Depending on your definition of “just“. It was a year and a half ago, and to me that’s a long time, ha! And although I love my master bedroom, there were a few elements that I wasn’t IN LOVE with. And we all know there’s a big difference between loving something, and BEING in love with something. Ok, enough justifying myself, you all get the point that I’m crazy. Moving on…
Here are a few pictures of the outcome of my original master bedroom makeover.
Like I said, I do love it. But I wanted to change a few things up and give it a “refresh”. Starting with the walls. I know what you’re thinking: the walls are main focal point of my room. And I agree with that. However, lately I’ve been loving monochromatic molded walls. Meaning the walls and the molding are all painted the same color. Like this:
And this:
And I know that style may not be for everyone, and some of you may like my walls the way they currently are better, but this is a change I’m really excited to make. Another reason I want to paint the walls is because currently, the gold starburst mirror above my wall doesn’t “pop” like I want it to. The wall behind it is too dark for it to stand out. So I’m hoping a lighter wall will really make it come alive, because I love that piece so much! I decided to paint the walls Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. I used that color for my laundry room makeover and officially fell in love with it.
Another change I want to make is to paint my night stands. These night stands were a second hand store find for only $40 each and I absolutely love them. They are antique, super good quality pieces, and provide a ton of storage. But once I paint the walls, I feel like they will blend in too much, since it will be gray on gray. So I have decided to go with white!
Something else I want to do is change the bedding. (I’m going to change that from a want to a need right now.) I NEED new bedding because the current beige duvet cover has a hole in it. Yes, that sounds a lot better. I’m going with this white and spa blue combo from Ballard Designs.
A couple other things I’m going to swap out are the bench at the end of the bed, the curtain panels, and the rug. I’ve already sold most of these things on my local neighborhood page and got decent money for them, yay!
Here is what I’m shooting for and the design board I put together to visualize it:
Overall, my goal is to make the room MUCH lighter than it currently is. I know it’s not necessarily dark, but my bedroom (for whatever reason) doesn’t get much natural light. And with the walls, and dark furniture they way they are, it’s really not as bright and airy of a space as I wish for.
I’m not buying any new furniture, just working with what I have, and replacing a few accessories.
I plan on getting the Ritva white curtain panels from IKEA and hemming them. They are extremely affordable and I’ve seen them used in other homes and they look fabulous! The rug is something I’ve dreamed about for months and it’s from Ballard.
One day, I also hope to switch out the fan for a chandelier. (If you know me, you know I have an obsession with chandeliers.) But the hubs is pretty adamant about leaving the fan since we use it every single night. And I agree with that, but fans just aren’t pretty to me 🙂 Not sure if this will ever happen, but this is the one I have my eye on:
Another thing on the wish list that I’m not sure will ever happen is the wood floors. My design board has them because they are something I’d love to incorporate, but I just don’t know if it’s realistic. If I put in wood floors, I feel like they should be the same wood as we have downstairs, which has sort of a reddish tone to them. And I prefer the darker, espresso wood, so I don’t know if it makes sense to spend money on wood floors that I don’t love. I also don’t know if it makes sense to add wood floors upstairs that are a different stain than the wood downstairs. If you’d like to weigh in on that, I’d love for you to comment below!
So that’s it for my plans to refresh our master bedroom. What do you think? I’ve already started working on a lot of the changes and I’m excited to share them with you soon!
Comment and let me know your thoughts. I love hearing from you guys!
