So this isn’t a pretty reveal, or a DIY tutorial, but before the month of January was over I wanted to share with you guys what projects around the house I plan on tackling this year. There’s a total of 6 things on my to-do list (and even more on the list in my head), but for the sake of being somewhat realistic, I’ll be happy if just the first 4 get accomplished. Being that we have a baby on the way in late May, I’m not really counting on much of anything getting done beyond then. But if I can somehow find a way to be Super Woman and still get projects done with a baby, that’s where 5 & 6 wish list items will come in.
Without further ado, I have listed these in order of priority, and hopefully this will help serve as accountability for myself throughout the year, too! I have already started working on the first few and will definitely share updates with you guys in the coming weeks.
1. Hubby’s Closet
Our bedroom has his & hers walk in closets and his is clearly the smaller of the 2. Everything’s crammed in pretty tight, but if you notice from the picture, this closet only houses his work clothes. His casual clothes are taking up another entire closet. Hence the need for a closet reno. But I’ll get to that in a minute. And no, I’m not going make his closet look like mine:
Just something that double hangs most of his clothes so we can fit a lot more in it that what it currently fits.
2. Baby’s Closet
Yes, this is the closet in the nursery right now. Ryan has been claiming it for the past 3 years as his casual shirt closet. And when I told Ryan a few months ago that he was going to have to move out of here and into his closet into the bedroom he said “why?” I said, “because this is the baby’s closet.” He said, “the baby doesn’t need a closet…”
Seriously? I can’t even deal. Clearly I won this argument. And the baby’s closet has already made lots of progress that I’ll be sharing shortly!
3. The Nursery
Here’s one of the empty bedrooms in our house that will soon be the nursery. Very boring I know, but will soon be quite the opposite. As you can see, I’ve already begun testing 927 paint colors. (Please refer this blog post of mine if you want to know how infuriating choosing paint colors can be for me.)
4. Garage Intervention
I can’t believe I’m posting this to all of the internet world, but as I mentioned above, I’m hoping this post serves as some accountability for these things actually happening. The garage serves as Ryan’s secondary home office storage, Christmas decoration central, Baseball card city, and my workshop. It’s not doing a good job, and I think an intervention is self explanatory.
The best part? We’ve already blocked off an entire weekend in February to get some of this tackled. I’m seriously so excited. No, really. My husband? Not so much.
5. Guest Bedroom
This brings me to numbers 5 and 6 which are completely wish list items. If everything above gets done before the baby arrives I’ll be ecstatic. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my guest room, but it’s the very first room I did in our first house many years ago and I’m just ready for a change. I really do like it, but I just want to change it up and make it flow with the rest of our house better.
6. Stair Renovation
This project is definitely a dream that I hope to realize one day, but I really wish it was at the top of the list. I want to remove the carpet from our stairs, refinish the wood underneath, and tear out the drywall and replace it with spindles and rails. This is the first thing you see when you walk in our house and the drywall just really closes off the entire house. The WHOLE house would open up and feel huge if I replaced the drywall with open air rails.
See how blocked off it makes everything? Imagine it open and airy. Ahhhhh.
This is what I’m envisioning. It’s so dreamy and I know it would make such a huge impact in my home. This is really something I want to tackle myself and I really think I could do it, but I’m scared and don’t want to start and then ruin something halfway through. I’ll keep dreaming and planning this out until it actually happens.
7. Dream Home
Oh and I just added this, but always on the list is convincing my husband that we need a new house. That will never change. Hahaha. I’m crazy, I know. Here’s my latest house crush that I’ve been drooling over. The floor plan is just fab. And it’s in a neighborhood with A++++ schools, and that’s important since we’re about to have a kid, right?? Help me out here, people!
That’s all for this year! I’m sure there will be several small projects in between, here and there, so stay tuned and subscribe by email for my updates 🙂
Comment and let me know your thoughts, I love hearing from you guys!
